What we campaign for
The objectives of our Access to Broadband Campaign (ABC) are to accelerate the deployment of high speed broadband Internet access throughout all of the UK and to make it as affordable and accessible as possible to all members of the community.
In doing so we hope to ensure that the educational, commercial, social, economic, health, governmental, environmental, technological, recreational and other benefits of broadband can be fully realized.
The campaign will be conducted primarily through the ABC website, media coverage generated through press releases and giving interviews to the news media as well as selected public appearances by the ABC Committee and supporters at special events. Important sections of the ABC website are intended to:
- Better educate people about broadband and its potential benefits in the UK including raising the awareness of the advantages of affordable and accessible broadband connectivity to the commercial, governmental and educational communities throughout the UK.
- Describe the current state of broadband Internet access in the UK including showing how the UK compares to other countries in the world with respect to broadband deployment and usage.
- Provide a comprehensive overview of the various Last Mile/First Mile broadband technologies available including ongoing trials of these technologies around the world highlighting best practices. (This is to be done in a technologically agnostic fashion, namely not championing specific technologies but objectively pointing out the advantages and drawbacks of each)
- Emphasize the importance of implementing broadband as a country-wide initiative not just in urban areas.
- Identify what needs to be done to accelerate the deployment of broadband and make it more affordable including modifying or removing economic, legal and regulatory barriers to existing and new Last Mile/First Mile technologies in the UK.
