Welcome to ABC
A is for Access
B is for Bridging the broadband digital divide
C is for Community empowerment
The objectives of ABC are to accelerate the deployment of high speed - "broadband" - Internet access throughout the UK and to make it as affordable and accessible as possible to all members of the community.
We welcome support and participation in whatever form, from simply registering as an ABC member, to providing financial or other non-monetary contributions to the campaign. We invite individuals, companies and organisations alike to join our campaign.
Spring 2007 - Has nothing changed? YES, it has! Join us and make an even bigger difference.
However, we are still trying to make the situation understood by government bodies, journalists, industry and more, 6 years after FRIACO was adopted. Ubiquitous true broadband is still a long way over the horizon, and actually the situation appears to be worsening with the digital divide seeming to widen in 2006 with the launch of DSL Max, and during 2007 with the line length issue and customer support coming to a head. The divide is not just within the UK, but between the UK and other nations. Please continue to support us.
1) Complete the Notspot survey at notspot.info. Not just 0Mbps broadband, but if you can't get 8Mbps, or 6, or 4 or 2, or even 1Mbps and you need it to live, work and play, please let us know. 2 minutes - results used by Sunday Times, BBC Breakfast Time etc. The initial report is now available at broadband-uk.coop, supplementary reports (bandwidth usage, consumer desires and others) are available from ABC.
2) Read our articles, and those on associated websites such as GTC, CBN, as well as EGovMonitor etc to catch up with the thinking.
3) Talk to the media (local, national and online), your Parish Council, District Council, County Council, Local Strategic Partnership, Health and education authorities, Regional Development Agencies, your MP, your MEP, neighbours, colleagues, and friends about the need for, and importance of, broadband.
ABC's objectives still stand. Ubiquitous, affordable, accessible, true broadband for all.
